Summary

CherAmi aims to be an inclusive environment for all roleplayers, and to provide a harassment-free environment in which to enjoy yourselves, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. Harassment is not tolerated in any form, and all communications on the site are expected to be amicable and friendly.

With this said, it is often the case that users may cross certain lines. As such, this document is intended to formally set out what is and is not considered acceptable behaviour on the site going forward, and what should be avoided. By no means is this list exhaustive, but it should form the basis of building a strong, cohesive community to keep the site and its community strong for years to come.

The community expects certain behaviour, and you are required to adhere to it - politeness, understanding, and being civil are requirements to be on CherAmi. The following are some of the guidelines and values to which the community should aspire:

  • Be friendly and welcoming - Be patient
    • Remember that people have varying communication styles, and that some users may not be native English speakers. Meaning and tone can be lost in translation.
    • For most users, this site is a hobby. As such, do not harass users demanding replies. This includes excessive bumping - let people get back to RPs in their own time.
  • Be thoughtful
    • Productive communication requires effort, and this holds true for holding a good prompt or a good roleplay. Think about how your words will be interpreted. Also, different people have different ways of handling things - sometimes a silent disconnect is what is best for your partner, and you must respect that without expecting or demanding a reason.
    • Remember - sometimes it is best to refrain from commenting. This includes excessive personal details in prompts - when writing them, think about what you're typing. This also means that sometimes, the best venue when disconnecting can mean saying nothing at all - remember, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."
    • Warning tags are critical to the experience of all users. Please use them properly by tagging anything potentially triggering exclusively in this section and avoid using it for commentary.
  • Be respectful
    • Avoid language in prompts that indicates that the prompt is an explicit sexual fantasy. Keep prompts respectful and on topic, without personal statements of arousal, or being overly enthusiastic about it.
    • Don't connect to prompts to harass others for what they're playing or their headcanons on characters. This is already against the rules, but it bears repeating here.
  • Avoid destructive behaviour
    • Unconstructive criticism should be avoided. This includes snarking on the prompts of others, connecting without intention to roleplay, scathing / unconstructive disconnect remarks, or just being generally mean.
    • Minimodding is not your job. If something breaks the rules, leave it to the actual mods.
    • Potentially offensive or sensitive issues are permitted in prompts, but they must be handled respectfully. While all parties involved in an RP can consent, in private, as to what the content of a roleplay will be, prompts are posted in public, and the language used in them should reflect this reality. This includes avoiding the use of unambiguous slurs, overly sexual language in starters or OOC, or oversharing personal details.

People are complicated, and there's a lot of variation in what some do and do not consider acceptable. You should expect to be misunderstood sometimes, and to misunderstand others, but the above are generally considered the bare minimum and are reasonably unambiguous with what they're saying.

Incidents that violate the Code of Conduct are considered rule violations and should be dealt with by a mod. The silver lining is that in many of these instances, it presents a chance for offenders to learn and grow and become better. However, egregious violations and repeat offenders may be punished by the moderation team as deemed necessary.
