SITE IS BACK UP
Since this switchover involved re-deploying the site and environment from scratch, there is a nonzero chance things will be buggy in a way we missed. If you are experiencing any bugs outside the normal ones (phantom unreads), let us know ASAP.
ALSO, THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT - You will need to log out and then log in again, for <tech reasons that the dev team can elaborate on if they want>. Otherwise, when you try to access your chat list, among other spots on the site, you will see a blank screen. DOWNTIME FOR SITE MIGRATION 11/10/2023
Hello, everyone!
Tomorrow (11/11/2023), we will be migrating our server to a newer, slightly better server under the same hosting service.
Q&A:
Q: Why?
A: They are retiring the old server rack that our site sits on so they can replace it with newer hardware.
Q: Will we lose anything in the migration?
A: No. The site will be taken down at some point tomorrow temporarily, the database backed up, taken offline, and then moved to the new computer. The only thing that will be lost is a couple hours of RP time.
Q: Is there anything else we should know?
A: Since we are moving to a new physical server, that means the site's IP address will be changing. This means that it may take a bit for DNS to catch up - if you connect to the site once maintenance ends and there is a mostly-blank landing page, that means your computer is trying to connect you to the old IP address. Give it an hour or two and try again. It will take at most 24 hours for the DNS changes to propagate globally, but for most people it will be immediate or within 1-2 hours.
Q: Are you/am I/is the site in trouble?
A: Nope! Literally just a hardware upgrade.
I intend to have the switchover occur sometime in the Afternoon/Early Evening EST or so. I will try to give everyone at least an hour of warning.

A little late, but better late than never - this year's edition of the Cherp Assorted Research and Demographics Survey is now available for you to fill out. Please only fill out the questions you are comfortable with, but the more you fill out, the better of a view we can get of the site's current userbase and their preferences.
There are four new questions this year, one of which is your willingness/desire to RP with verified/unverified users, and the other three are related to your general levels of site satisfaction and things we could do to improve that.
